Exhaustion sets in

So today has possibly been the most exhausting day, but hopefully fruitful and rewarding. I shot what will become the final sequence in the job application, and without giving too much away also shot stills for a marketing campaign which should help expose both the Queensland Tourism brand and my application video. The above shot is just a quick post-production turn around of what you can expect to see.

Of course any part of online marketing requires a user community and feedback. So I've enabled commenting and added feed syndication for those who want up to the second jamesonhamo.com updates.

Ham-oh

For the foreign viewers Hamo is short for Hamilton, and in particular Hamilton Island.

For the best possible outcome, I've been sending this website around to friends, family and professionals in the marketing industry.

Conveniently, one of our neighbours in Shute Haven is a creative director who telecommutes (to his office in Sydney) for work. My dad got in touch and said check out james' website james-on-hamo-dot-com, to which his reply was, It doesn't work.

They butted their heads together for a while and then realised that he'd spelt it jamesonhammo.com.

This is just another example why you should get your stuff out there to friends and family asap, as they'll help you spot the niggling mistakes that could just cost you something that you really love. In the case of web marketing, it'll cost you traffic. In this instance, the right person might just not see it.

Oh and I also have jamesislandreefjob.com

Why I am the right person for this job!

I imagine that most people applying for this job would say that this is their dream job.

I'm curious to whether it really is, or is it the generous salary and the apparent "holiday" they think they'd be on?

Before my Mum & Dad pointed me to the website, my plans for this year entailed one thing, photographing and blogging my way around Australia. For the past three years I've done just that around Europe, then earlier this year with the current financial situation and many Australian friends coming home to pursue their dreams, I thought it was time to come home too and do what I love!

Then this job came under offer... and my life has been turned upside down. For the first time in my life, I have a burning desire. Knowing that there is a position available for the one thing that I've only ever wanted to do, and for it to be in a location that I have evangelised for the past six years and to do exactly that-evangelise Queensland to the many travelers of the world. I honestly feel this job was custom built, bespoke for me.

Here's a quick list of why I am ideal for this position.

  • I have (for the past five years) and still do blog regularly (photography and writing) on world travel.
  • I have over four years of web marketing experience.
  • I have a degree in computer science, I could actually build the blog if needs be (I built this one).
  • I have worked as a photographer on Daydream Island, in the Whitsundays.
  • I am a commercial advertising photographer.
  • I am a competent sailer, skills gained by training in the Whitsundays.
  • I am a PADI Certified diver.
  • I have Bronze & Silver Duke of Edinburgh qualifications, which means I love to get outdoors.
  • I have an Australian boat license and access to personal watercraft in the Whitsunday's.
  • Access to a 4WD Vehicle located in Shute haven/harbour. Which will allow me to cover further of the Queensland Coast.
  • Adventurous Spirit, I have worked as a Lift Operator and Snowboard Instructor on Stratton Mountain, Vermont.
  • What I think is most important, is that I have evangelised the Whitsunday's and Queensland for the past six years already, there is no question that I am already devoted to this cause.

Just a small bit of my London in 3 minutes.

While still being relatively new to video production (incredibly different to stills work), I feel that I'm coming along leaps and bounds with editing and my video camera work.

I've had many suggestions from friends who have viewed this blog so far.

  1. Get a haircut, as hamo island is a straight laced island.
  2. Don't read from a script.
  3. Don't get a haircut as they'll be looking for a bogan.
  4. Don't record in your home office/guest room.
  5. The jamesonhamo.com text in the header image is too soft, it should be as sharp and crisp as the image itself.
  6. Talk less about technical stuff.
  7. Talk more about technical stuff.
  8. All great suggestions... and keep them coming.

For those who are interested in the technical (I know some people are), all these videos have been shot on a Camera 5D Mark II used with a Canon EF 16-35mm Lens and held with a steadicam merlin, which I'm only just getting used to, hence you may get a little seasick until I get some steadicam experience.
